Having made the leap from employee to one man coding show, I can say it's been by far the best career decision I've ever made. It's incredibly fun. It's also incredibly stressful, as you instantly become not only coder but accountant, marketing guru and salesman, along with a dozen other hats. But, it's totally worth it. Personally, I like the advice in <a href='http://benjisimon.blogspot.com/2008/09/review-toilet-paper-entrepreneur.html' rel="nofollow">this book</a>, to get started.
